Our Philosophy
Mission
The mission of Our Mothers and Us (OMUS) is to increase awareness and facilitate transparent discussion surrounding maternal health within communities of color; particularly, Black communities across Maricopa County, Arizona. OMUS supports women and families by facilitating health promotion, education, and outreach activities to promote healthy pregnancies and overall well-being— before, during, after pregnancy, and the transition period into parenthood.
Vision
We envision a world where Black mothers have healthy pregnancies, births, babies, and families.
Values
Advocacy
We advocate for the right to information, opportunity, and tools for women and families so that they can make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Community
We have a duty to the community which drives our efforts and activities. Community participation is crucial in achieving the goal of reducing maternal, infant, and child health disparities.
Fellowship
We believe in creating space for community members to share their perceptions, experiences, and knowledge, both as an educational opportunity and a starting point for effective solutions.
Information
We believe in making information (especially culturally-relevant information) and educational opportunities related to health and well-being available and accessible to all.
